New Scripting Yuniti Myspace Tracker Safely Shows

Yuniti is an online social network that has taken care to promote itself as a safe haven for members. You may remember that it was among the first social networks to sign on ValidationID for the protection of its users, as well as capabilities to note the authentication of other Yuniti members. Now Yuniti is taking the concept of identity validation in another direction with the addition of a MySpace Tracker.

myspace-friends-logo.pngWith this feature on Yuniti, you have a spam-free and scam-free way of seeing who’s been visiting your MySpace profile. The good thing about Yuniti’s MySpace Tracker is that you don’t have to provide your personally identifying MySpace information. The downside is that this Tracker is limited to other Yuniti users that have also signed up for this new tracking service. What you’ve got, in essence, is a fraction of a typical case profile aggregator that takes into account the activity of certain participating users on Yuniti, that have activated the tracking tool.

As with Yuniti’s inclusion of ValidationID, the features won’t be entirely helpful until a large number of users sign on as well. When it comes to tools such as these offered by Yuniti, the downfalls merely come with the qualms of taking the safe route. Will Yuniti’s scam-free approach help give it a leg up? The somewhat roundabout manner with which the use of the MySpace Tracker that’s required may also be the major downturn to Yuniti’s adoption rate, which is the opposite of what Yuniti hopes it will do–increase the network’s adoption rate.

New Impressive Zillow Taps Newspapers For Real Estate Listings

Posted on Feb 21, 2008 11:50:24 PM

Today,

Zillow’s looking to build its database on real estate info any way it can. Having already teamed up with some major brokerage firms, it’s looking to newspapers to further supplement its online listings. Eleven newspaper publishing companies, which represent a total of 282 newspapers across the nation, have partnered for distribution purposes, and that means that more of the stuff from newspapers’ classifieds will now be found on Zillow as well.

So if you happen to be in the market for selling your home and you actually still use the newspaper classifieds section to do so, you’ll have an option of placing your listing on Zillow, too. That means more eyeballs, and less work, through the advantages of a distributed classifieds system, like Oodle.

What that means for Zillow is that it continues to become more useful in the eyes of those that control the real estate industry. In becoming a tool working in conjunction with real estate professionals, it further curbs the retaliation we witnessed from the real estate industry in regards to self-serving online tools. Zillow is doing this, in large part, by signing up partners for the gathering of real estate listings. It comes across as being less back-handed and more legitimate. And legitimate is good.

So far, newspaper partners include Hearst, Journal Register, Lee Enterprises, Media General, MediaNews, Morris Communications, Paddock, and Scripps, to name a few.

Source Facebook: Seen This Movie

Posted on Feb 21, 2008 04:35:10 AM

Today,  God, it felt like I was watching the fifth installment of a familiar action flick when I read this:(Facebook) execs are also trying to nail down a big funding that will potentially give the hotsy-totsy social network a giant slug of cash, as well as a lofty $15 billion valuation. No deal as yet, but sources close to Facebook said it was now a horse race between Microsoft, which already serves Facebook’s ads in the U.S., and Google. Yahoo, sources said, is a long-shot dark horse in the bidding. One year ago, it was the same horse race, but for AOL’s search and remnant business. And before that, it was the bidding for Facebook’s IAB ad units. Or Myspace’s search/remnant. Or … or… or….Well. It should be quite an interesting Web 2 this week, no? New Actions Egnyte - Online File Sharing For Businesses?

Posted on Feb 20, 2008 05:15:04 AM

Today,

Egnyte is a company that revealed its services at DEMO a year ago, and I initially covered it last year. Upon its launch, Egnyte was a collaborative tool that worked closely with a user’s desktop to make file-sharing amongst team members an easier, more automated process.

Egnyte is now stepping things up, adding more features that also target businesses, but offer a more complete solution for those teams that need to access files from various locations, and for those company’s that need to extend some of these file-sharing options to their clients. The company is now launching a 3-in-1 solution that presents a hosting solution for online Shared Folders file storage, as well as web and desktop access to Shared Folders, and more admin tools to manage accounts and permissions.

After speaking with Egnyte CEO Vineet Jain about Egnyte’s new upgrades, one thing that I quickly noticed was the redesign options that make the service easier for the average user to use. What Egnyte has done is modified its user interface in order to better mimic the layout of your My Computer or Finder on your PCs and Macs. What this does is help bridge the gap for users that are already comfortable with the PC concept. The syncing options for Egnyte and your own desktop have also been made very easy. Any files you’d like to place in your Egnyte Shared Folder can be dragged from your desktop to the Egnyte desktop folder, which looks, feels and operates just like a piece of software that works seamlessly with your computer.

The way in which users can interact with their own clients has been considered as well. Free space and limited accounts are offered for businesses so that they can collaborate with their clients and share files in an efficient manner. Additional upgrades for this release are improved security and encryption, constant file backup, and more custom options for businesses.

I wondered if all this would eventually lead an even more involved take on business needs for online solutions, such as the DaaS options we’ve seen with Slaesforce. Egnyte already has a pretty unique approach to its collaborative tools–one that I think is highly practical for every day business use. It seems like including more involved DaaS options to some extent would be a logical next step for Egnyte to take, but Egnyte reminded me that the company has a pretty intense focus on its current tools, which primarily bring collaboration options to business teams. Either way, I’m still very interested in following this space overall, as more business tools integrate with web tools for varied solutions specifically for dealing with an existing customer base.

Scripting Ibm Lotusphere 2008 - Highlights From Fifth Day - Thursday 24th

Posted on Feb 19, 2008 12:55:40 PM

Today,  Here we go with one more blog post detailing some of the highlights from the last day at the IBM Lotusphere event that took place last week. We are already on the last day of the conference, and what a conference!! One of the most re-energising and refreshing events I’ve attended in a long while! And the main highlight from me so far; like usual: the people!! The incredible talent put together jamming away for a few days talking about what drives their passion. Mine is social computing. So during those five days I just couldn’t stop bumping into people I knew for quite some time, and some others I was introduced to, who help me gain lot of experience and first hand insights on how other folks are adopting social software. Later on, I will create another blog post, probably the last one from the series, where I will be sharing with you folks what I have learned from the entire event itself, and what I should have done to even take much more advantage from the conference itself. Yes, I had a great time, but there were a few things I think I should have done different in order to get even more out of it. But that is the subject for another blog post…Waking-up lateYes, I know, I am guilty of that one. Perhaps because it was the last day of the conference. Perhaps because I stayed up with the Lotus Connections folks till very early in the morning. Whatever it was, I eventually missed out the first couple of hours of speaker sessions. I just couldn’t. So I decided to recover and make some time to spend the rest of the day attending what was left from the event itself, which then proved to be rather interesting as well, to say the least.GURUpalooza SessionTo start with, I attended one session called GURUpalooza, which, to me, was quite an interesting session, since it was the first time I ever saw something similar. …

New Internet Porn Ads On Facebook

Posted on Feb 18, 2008 02:26:52 PM

Today,

    fbprn.PNG

A Mashable reader writes:

The attached screen capture shows a porn ad I noticed on facebook. I clicked around a bit and about 20-30 page views later it appeared again…This ad is a direct violation of facebook’s own rules.

Since some of you are spoilsports and don’t like boobies on the homepage, you’ll need to click on the image to see the ad in all its glory (NSFW). What an we infer from this? Probably not much, apart from the fact that Facebook lets its guard down a little on holidays. Frankly, MySpace’s dating banners are almost as revealing.

Zuckerberg, put that porn away!

New Tutorial Last.fm And Bbc Launch Charts For Uk Radio Stations

Posted on Feb 17, 2008 05:05:04 AM

Today,

Last.fm has partnered with BBC Radio’s pop music stations to show users of the social music service what’s being broadcast. Users are then able to view charts of what has been most-played on Radio 1, Radio 2, 1 Xtra, and BBC 6, as well as compare their music taste compatibility with the stations through Last.fm’s “taste-o-meter.”

Last.fm has been tracking what’s been played on BBC’s stations since the spring in order to build up data for their chart features. The company is certainly developing a nice collection of data, and has already teamed up with Music Week to publish some of its charts in the industry magazine. As a part of CBS, Last.fm may be looking to establish itself as the Web 2.0 version of Billboard.

So what’s most popular right now in the UK? According to Last.fm, on BBC 1, the top three artists are The Hoosiers, Sugababes, and Robyn, followed by a few staples of American pop music including Avril Lavigne and Kanye West.

Last.fm is based in London, so its not too surprising these two companies are finding ways to work together.
