Internet Fotoflexer Is Fluent Across The Globe

FotoFlexer is now available in a total of 7 languages: Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. This global expansion comes at a time when several web-based services are finding that launching a localized site across the globe is a necessary step in furthering the brand.
Having released its set of APIs in September and following up with its participation in OpenSocial, the manner in which FotoFlexer can make itself accessible through other social networks has been significantly increased this year. In terms of web-based image editing tools, integration with social networks is becoming a key offering for many, including Flickr, Photobucket, Box.net and more, and looking at Mark’s in-depth interview with the team at FotoFlexer, it’s apparent that the company is looking for a higher level of integration that will be beneficial and easy to use for consumers.
The recent funding of MixerCast speaks to this point as well. Friendster is the other network that’s recently launched a series of localized sites for its global expansion, which was very important for Friendster as it already had a stronghold in Asian countries.
Brand New Impressive Nsyght Adds Delicious Imports To Social Search

Nsyght launched its social search engine a few months back, and we haven’t heard much from the company since. But the latest round of updates look to improve its search tools and social utility. Other than the necessary user interface re-design, nsyght also has tag support, which is similar to a bookmarking tool for layering in websites to your nsyght profile.
This is somewhat akin to how Twine has combined bookmarking and social search in a rather direct manner of providing recommendations and trusted results from an extended social network. Adding to this particular value added feature is the ability to syndicate your social bookmarks from Delicious, Ma.gnolia and Simpy.
I like the direction in which nsyght is moving with bookmarking syndication, as this is an inherent recommendation potential, and the inclusion of existing bookmarks with a structured social search tool can be quite useful. Not to fret too much, however. There are privacy options layered into all th bookmarking capabilities that nsyght is adding. This is also another step in the direction nsyght was planning on going.
Other added features include tag clouds, user clouds, and OpenID support.

New Internet Web 2.0 And Open Science
Posted on Nov 18, 2008 11:05:03 AM
Admin wrote: Drexel University Libraries’ annual Scholarly Communication Symposium focused on web 2.0 in general and open science in particular. This is fast becoming my favorite conference: I can walk there; it’s free; it’s well organized; everyone there is smart, friendly and from diverse backgrounds; you get to eat a great lunch and it’s all over by 1:30! Keynoter Jean-Claude Bradley (Chemistry) described UsefulChem and his mash-up of technologies for disseminating his work. I was struck by his pragmatic approach–some articles are better suited for peer-reviewed journals, some items better suited for blog posts or wikis, some items for mailing lists. He described what he called “open science” which is making your lab notebooks and all data available to anyone who would like to look at it. He claimed the old way to evaluate information was to see if it was peer-reviewed, the new way is to make all the data available and let everyone look at it to see if they can find any problems.A questioner in the Q and A asked about patents and giving up the power to exclude. Bradley responded, “if you are trying to get a patent, I wouldn’t recommend this approach. But if you have a project in which you don’t care about a patent, it’s a great way to find collaborators.” The costs of 2.0 may include giving up the power to exclude, but in return you often get feedback on your work where previously you wouldn’t get any and you get found more. Bradley struck me as an example of the kind of scholar who has figured out how to mix the new tools with the old and use them both to advance his own work and to advance his field. Whether he has any life outside his work and posting to his blogs and wikis is harder to say.He mentioned a few tools I hadn’t heard of. …

Scripting Utipu Makes Video Demos On The Fly
Posted on Nov 18, 2008 12:10:06 AM
Admin wrote:

uTIPu (pronounced you-tip-you) is a way of sharing information. It’s specific to sharing information about your computer. Think of it as a slide show creation tool for the sole purpose of showing someone exactly what you’re talking about on a computer screen.
We’ve all been there. You’re on the phone with your girlfriend and you want to show her a pair of sunglasses you found online. Your end of the conversation goes like this: “Well, go to bluefly.com and click on the “accessories” link. See it? It’s a little further down the page. On the left. Got it? OK. Then click on Calvin Klein. Yeah. It’s the third pair to the right, second row from the bottom. No, to the right. Count it. Right next to the brown pair. No, it’s to the left of the brown pair, but it’s on the right side of the screen.”
So uTIPu proposes that you just record your actual computer screen and share the video with your friend. uTIPu’s service comes by way of a software download that enables you to record directly from your computer screen. Use your webcam too if you’d like. That way you can show yourself talking along with the video. Otherwise you can add audio narration (you don’t have to) and then your clip can be shared privately or publicly. The limit for videos is 5 minutes long, so don’t get too long-winded. It’s just a pair of sunglasses.

Now in reality this is helpful to a certain extent to just about any computer user that has friends in the real or virtual world, but I honestly see this tool as being most useful for the plethora of startups that may want an easy option for creating a video demo to play on their site. But I don’t think it will be replacing web conferences any time soon, and I don’t see it as having too much mainstream appeal, for the simple fact that several video messaging tools and integrated applications are quickly being incorporated into social networking and instant messenger clients, such as Meebo.
Nevertheless, the tool is easy enough to use. I imagine some integration with other slide show creation and sharing tools could be beneficial, similar to what MyPlick has done in terms of indexing and sharing options for embeddable slide shows that also support third-party applications. On the networking side, uTIPu has a basic account system where you can see an aggregate of the tips that other users have left, and leave comments and ratings.

Brand New Updated Flixwagon Starts Pitching Media And Mobile Carriers En Masse
Posted on Nov 16, 2008 06:25:03 PM
Admin wrote:
For a good while Flixwagon, a live and on-demand video service provider, has targeted individual mobile phone users. The service has done fairy well with this model. Still, the company has determined that its effectiveness in the public eye enables it to grow itself further into the mainstream, and is making an official debut of its platform as a “telco-grade” utility today. Yes, mobile carriers and media organizations in particular are now being directly targeted by the company to offer subscribers and viewers who might otherwise go about their day without an encounter with Flixwagon to connect to media piped its way.
It should be said that Flixwagon’s isn’t virgin to major media outlets. Its ties to MTV, for instance, go back to January, when it helped manage political coverage via a series of Nokia N95 devices commandeered by MTV Street Team members during moments of Super Tuesday. Yet that appeared more of a pilot project than true coming out for Flixwagon in its efforts to woo big business into partnerships. Its announcement this week of a “field-proven solution for leading carriers to enable live video broadcasting to their subscribers,” is really the service’s time to hit it big.
And big it needs to be in order to successfully contend with the likes of Qik, which, in addition to being a favorite of numerous faces in the top echelon of the blog world, was recently harnessed to serve as a beacon in and around the Democratic and Republican conventions held in late August and early September, respectively. We noted C-SPAN in particular as having devoted a page to which Qik captures were being hosted. Flixwagon, meanwhile, listed as its most recent big-name exclusive an MTV-hosted event called Jonas Brothers: Live & Mobile. “36 hours, 600 clips, over 600 million video streams, 60,000 hours of video viewed,” is how Flixwagon described it.
As for the features given to carriers and media outfits, Flixwagon is promising:
- Field-proven, telco-grade, scalable platform that can support any number of simultaneous live broadcasts and concurrent video streams.
- Reliability amid network disruptions.
- Easily customizable mobile app, Web, and user interface.
- Email, SMS, RSS, and social network alerts to inform viewers about new broadcasts, as well as location-based notifications.
- The ability to generate additional ad revenue or establish new revenue streams through premium service and increased data usage.

Brand New Script Diggnation Gets Hyperlinked, With Videoclix
Posted on Nov 16, 2008 10:30:03 AM
Today,
Hyperlinked, interactive video hasn’t been fully immersed as a branding or advertising tool with larger (or small) video networks just yet, but Revision3 is hoping to change all that, with a new partnership with VideoClix.tv. The Revision3 video network is launching its new clickable content with Diggnation, which can be seen here.

VideoClix is another to emerge into the exploratory realm of hyerlinked videos for branding and advertising purposes, more similar to Overlay.tv than most of the other emergents in this field. The result of a VideoClix-enhanced clip is like PopUp Video–on a sidebar. Click on any object in the video and you’ll see additional information to the right, which is presented in a semi-transparent sidebar. It’s within this sidebar that you can also place an ad.
Unlike Asterpix, there doesn’t yet appear to be a way to follow content within a video clip, and the process for creating sidebar content could be quite cumbersome for a brand seeking out a solution for customizing clips with the VideoClix service. What such services will eventually need to develop is a highly automated way in which content can be selected within a clip, and assigned to ads. There are a good number of developers already working on this, so the hyperlinked video will soon become a more viable option for integrating with larger video networks as an advertising solution.
